Summary

The 3DS gets a submarine game. In fact there are three different kinds of submarine to choose from, each of which has touch-screen control panels that need to be learned and, indeed, mastered.

The player has to navigate their underwater boat through a variety of sub-aquatic environments, while at the same time engaging enemy submarines in battle. Not only that, but the gamer must make sure to avoid or fight massive sea creatures while being depth-charged from above.

Using the built-in gyroscope of the Nintendo 3DS system, the submarine commander must also make full use of the new handheld system.

There are various missions to accomplish during which the gamer has to make best use of their sub's speed, depth and pitch as well as finding the best use of torpedoes to attack and, of course, defend.

In the event that the boat does get holed, the player can make use of the stylus to plug the leaks and save the crew.

As well as single player combat, there is also a two-player strategy with the Steel Commander mode in which a local wireless connection is used for one-against-one gameplay. This is played out in a top-down view in a turn-based manner in which players use the gyroscope to enter ‘periscope’ mode and locate the opponent’s craft… before torpedoing it out of the water.
