Summary

Rare's Nintendo 64 classic, Goldeneye 007, is treated a bit like Blade Runner when it comes to sequels and remakes. Cutting-edge at the time of its 1997 release, the fear that anyone could come in and try to soil the fond memories spent playing Facility in multiplayer is extraordinary. But, if anyone can try to reinvent the timeless James Bond shooter with modern-day gameplay mechanics, then it's fellow Brits Eurocom.

This Wii remake takes us through an updated Goldeneye 007 storyline, with Pierce Brosnan replaced with current MI5 actor Daniel Craig. As a result, there isn't so much an emphasis on gadgets as there is a one-device-does-all PDA that allows Bond to hack into terminals and manipulate technology.

The core gameplay mechanics have been treated with such care and respect that playing it with a Wii Remote and Nunchuk almost feels like you're playing the original on an N64 control pad. Updated graphics and alternate scenes make up the visual differences in this version however – from the very start of the game you infiltrate the iconic Dam, but now with an exhilarating truck chase sequence and deeper exploration of the terminal offices to spice up the familiar action.

What 007 game would be complete without multiplayer? Four-player split-screen options are available that offer 40 characters (with eight classic Bond characters), five maps, three different combat modes and sixteen modifiers to make the game as unique as possible. For the first time, Goldeneye 007 can be taken online to face fellow 00 Agents via the Nintendo WiFi Connection.
