Summary

The Tour de France is one of the world’s greatest sporting events. A mix of individual heroics and edge-pushing grit, stamina and determination combined with intricate team strategy and complex logistical management.

Pro Cycling Manager Tour De France 2011 brings all this to the gaming screen as the gamer leads their team in the role of Sports Director for one of the official team actually competing in the 2011 cycling season.

The teams competing this year include: Omega Pharma-Lotto (Belgium), Quickstep Cycling Team (Belgium), Saxo Bank Sungard (Denmark), Euskaltel-Euskadi (Spain), Movistar Team (Spain), AG2R La Mondiale (France), Sky Procycling (Great Britain), Lampre-ISD (Italy), Liquigas-Cannondale (Italy), Pro Team Astana (Kazakhstan), Leopard Trek (Luxembourg), Rabobank Cycling Team (Netherlands), Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team (Netherlands), Katusha Team (Russia), BMC Racing Team (USA), HTC-Highroad (USA), Team Garmin-Cervelo (USA), Team Radioshack (USA), Cofidis, Le Credit En Ligne (France), FDJ (France), Saur-Sojasun (France), Team Europcar (France).

The player’s role is to try to organise not only the cycling aspects of the competition but also team finances – including sponsorship. Then there’s ensuring that the best riders ride for the gamer’s team and that means contract negotiations with other teams bidding for the talent. Keeping the athletes happy is no mean feat and neither is choosing the running order and formation and tactics to use during the events.

An improved 3D engine and new cyclist models add to the realism of the racing itself and this is all held together by a newly designed user interface so that the gamer can try to compete with the updated AI.

Back in the peloton, though, is the level designer that enables the player to design and run their own races.
