Summary

Interwave Studios puts the gamer firmly in the role of combat-ready trooper in the strategy-cum-shooter outing that is Nuclear Dawn.

Set in war-torn post-apocalyptic landscapes that have been modelled on real-life cities the game tasks the player with choosing to the take the enemy in a range of scenarios using a vast arsenal of weaponry.

Players can choose between playing as armoured, assault or stealth infantry, with ten unique load-outs.

Each class of trooper has its own strengths and weaknesses all of which must be mastered. Once this is achieved the ever-challenging terrain, which differs on a mission-by-mission basis, has to be understood and dealt with accordingly to achieve offensive and defensive strength and final victory.

Although the game is played in first-person-shooter style with fast-paced action there is a large emphasis placed on skill and tactics over instinct and map navigation.

There is also the option to play as the Commander. In this mode, the gamer must organise other players into squads. This means assigning them objectives and applying tactics. This multiplayer mode calls for a cool head and quick thinking as well as resource management, route planning and of course strategic thinking.

To defeat the enemy, the Commander must also research and implement new technologies in order to set up defensible forward bases in the form of high-tech fortresses.
