The gamer’s task in Pirates of the Black Cove is to rule the Caribbean as Pirate King in the 16th century. To achieve this they must work their way up from the bottom of the piratical ladder, attain captaincy of their own dastardly vessel and crew before joining one of the many notorious pirate outposts and ruling all of pirate-kind.
This strategy role-playing game features combat, planning, guile, bribery, assassination and a host of other tactical and combat skills and attainments. The player not only has to gain promotion, they must also recruit other pirates and then other pirate captains into their mighty fleet of ne’er-do-wells.
Set in an open-world environment in which the three campaign modes are played out and a series of side-missions can be entered into in order to increase skills and level-up. Pirates gain both notoriety and fame.
It’s not all sea-based action however, as the game is also played out in land-based challenges. Recruited pirates and privateers have to be kept in place and also cajoled into action with ‘grog’ (rum) and other skilful negotiations. That's all as well, of course, as brute force.
The player – on their ambitious rush for the top spot – will experience a range of strange characters as well as exotic locations.
