Summary

Those gamers familiar with the Tropico series will welcome the return of “El Presidente” in this the fourth iteration of the strategy/management title from Haemimont and Kalypso. With the Gold Edition, you get the added bonus of all the content released with the Modern Times add-on pack.

The gamer takes on the role of the despot (or 'benign dictator', depending on the way the game is played) as he struggles to keep power in a modern world with changed political players vying for global domination.

As leader of the country of Tropico the player must make key decisions over resources and political alliances in order to ensure the happiness – or at least the compliance – of the population. Of course, the fact that El Presidente’s own financial wellbeing can benefit comes heavily into the equation as well.

Features have been added to Tropico 4 including more more superpowers to negotiate with and even elections of ministers, but only those who will ensure that El Presidente’s policies get through.

New natural disasters have also been added to the mix to ensure that even if the populace is kept happy (or at least under the heel) mother nature can always shake up the mix. These six new interactive disasters include volcanoes, droughts and tornadoes.

All this is played out over 20 new missions that take place across 10 brand new new maps. The island nation of Tropico now has 20 new buildings including a stock exchange, a shopping mall, a new aqua park and even a mausoleum for El Presidente.

Facebook and Twitter integration have also been added to the game enabling gamers to post comments on Twitter directly from the game. Screenshots can also be posted to the gamer’s Tropico 4 Facebook page. There is also the Dictator Ranking on the online leaderboards to keep up with.

Modern Times brings the chance to drag Tropico into the 21st century with an additional 30 new buildings, 10 new edicts and 12 new single-player scenarios.
