Summary

What do you give the JRPG player who's seen it all before? All of it. Every last character you can cram into your game. Whatever you may happen to think of the game itself, you can't fault Project X Zone for its ambition. Developer MonolithSoft has been given license to use characters from the Namco Bandai, Capcom and SEGA stables, and with 60 characters in the fray the studio has really gone to town.

The game takes place in a world that, on the surface, seems like a normal, peaceful place. Beneath that calm veneer, however, lurks evil. We won't try to untangle the tale of how all these heroes and villains wound up there, but suffice to say that a rift in time and space is involved and now our heroes have a lot on their plates.

The game features tactical combat on a grid system. Unlike other RPGs, you input battle commands on the fly, making for some exciting, intense combat. You'll be controlling pairs of players such as Jin and Xiaoyu (TEKKEN), Toma and Cyrille (Shining Force EXA) or X and Zero (Mega Man X). That's twice the power in every fight!

For those feeling a little daunted by the sheer volume of characters in the mix, there's the in-game Crosspedia to fill you in. If you do know the characters, though, you'll get the most out of nice little touches such as Dead Rising star Frank West stopping to take pictures of every female he meets.

With a roster like this at your disposal, there's no excuse for failing to save the world!
