Summary
Ubisoft has made a bold (and, let's face it, unusual) move with Assassin's Creed Unity. Eschewing the last-generation Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms by giving them their own game, Assassin's Creed: Rogue, the publisher has pushed forward with Unity as a new-gen and PC only title. While that shows that the company is whole-heartedly embracing the shiny new hardware on offer, though, the publisher has gone back to the series' roots and shone a light squarely on the game's main star - the city of Paris.
The game takes us to the French Revolution and into the boots of our new assassin du jour, Arno Dorian. The game's Paris is a filthy mass of dirty streets, rooftop panoramas and conspiracy around every corner. You can practically smell the place.
You might be tempted to assume that the assassins are on the side of the revolutionaries, but Unity is a bit more subtle than AC3 and it's more ambiguous as to which camp the assassins are in.
As ever, the game is a mix of stealth, strategy, combat and parkour. It's all been beefed up, with the game having been built using Ubisoft's new anvil engine. There's tons to do, with Ancestral Missions, Treasure Hunts, Murder Mysteries and Contracts all running alongside the main campaign. Paris is chock full of objectives to play through, and you'll get plenty of game for your money.
This is complemented by a co-op mode that enables up to four players to engage in heists, protection assignments and, of course, assassinations against the backdrop of 18th century Paris.
