Summary

Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland is a big step forward for developers Gust, as this is the first title in the Atelier series that uses 3D graphics to detail battles and gameplay rather than the traditional 2D approach. Despite the technological step forward, there's no denying that it still contains the same charm and colourful worlds that the series is best known for.

Laced with humorous anime dialogue – laced with sexual innuendo, as always - Atelier Rorona's story focuses on the titular young alchemist that learns that her master's workshop is due to be closed down. The only way it can be saved is if it proves itself as a useful establishment to the community.

Bothered by this, Rorona's master packs up and moves on, leaving the workshop in her name. If she wants to stay in business she must perform tasks set by the local government every three months for three years.

A lot of the time, in true RPG fashion, you'll be beating the smack out of monsters that roam the land. The best way to overcome these foes is by creating items using your special alchemy powers. Collecting recipes along the course of your adventure will allow you to build more helpful potions and items, but Rorona's health is used up every time you perform alchemy, so you must be careful. The assignments given to you are all time-based as well, making the challenge to stay in business even more difficult...

This edition features a redone 3D character model for Rorona, a redesigned item synthesis and crafting system and new chapters and playable characters not previously seen in the series.
