Summary

RIGS: Mechanized Combat League is easily one of the beefiest of the launch titles for PlayStation VR. It offers a weighty, full-bodied experience developed by Guerrilla Games, the studio behind hit AAA games such as the Killzone series.

It's a game that plays to the strengths of VR, as well as the skillset that made Guerrilla Games a big-name studio in the first place. RIGS is set in a near future in which players pilot mechanised athletic fighting machines known as RIGS. These players - and their teams - compete in massive arenas in major cities around the world. Think Robot Wars writ large, with dynamic contests of skill that blend shoot-'em-up action with fighting machinery and competitive sports.

The game has a single-player mode that's reminiscent of those in racing games such as Gran Turismo - compete in events to rise through the ranks, attracting sponsors that will pay for ever better mechs and more accomplished AI teammates.

There's also a substantial multiplayer mode that can be played with up to six players, whether they're all human or whether your team is filled out by AI companions. You might play in an American Football-like game with a holographic ball, a traditional deathmatch-type event or a game in which the mechs themselves have to make it through a goal!
