Summary
When the first great wave of colony ships left Earth to cross interstellar space there was jubilation and optimism about a future for humanity among the stars. For those left behind, it didn't last long.
Left to compete for ever-dwindling resources on the increasingly barren Planet Earth, the humans on terra firma didn't have the option to be idealistic - they had to survive. Opportunism, resilience, ruthlessness and an unrelenting drive to survive took hold.
Many decades after the first wave made landfall at their new homes, they look up to see the skies filled with a very different kind of pioneer...
Rising Tide builds on the foundations of Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth, which took the classic series beyond its historical context and on to a brave new science fiction future. It comes with a host of new features.
The option to colonise the ocean is perhaps the biggest new feature. Players can build floating settlements and extract resources hidden beneath alien oceans. They'll encounter native fauna, though, and a raft of new challenges that come with them.
Another change to the environments of Beyond Earth is the introduction of two new world types. Primordial worlds are still in the process of forming and, as such, are hot worlds riddled with volcanic activity. On the other end of the spectrum are ancient frozen worlds, covered by ice-capped oceans and frigid tundra.
There are also new sponsors, new dynamic leader traits, enhanced diplomatic options, a new artifact system and new hybrid units that combine multiple affinities.
