Summary

As Days Gone kicks off humanity is in some serious trouble. The zombie... sorry, 'freaker' apocalypse is in full swing and humanity's chances are not looking all that great. It's two years since day zero and most of humanity is dead, but millions were transformed into mindless feral creature. Those who survive live in a world of scarce resources, fierce competition from other bands of humans and freakers who roam the wilderness.

Then there's you.

You play as Deacon St. John, a hard-riding bounty hunter who prowls the lawless wilderness of the Pacific Northwest beyond the civilian encampments. You used to be part of an outlaw motorcycle club, Mongrels MC, but now you ride for whoever can pay.

Days Gone is an open world zombie survival game. Resources are scarce, as are people you can trust. Your enemies are as likely to be human as freaker, but how you deal with them will depend on what you're up against. Yes, the freakers are mindless, but they're also fast and have a nasty tendency to move in hordes. On a lot of occasions you'll want to remain hidden for as long as possible to avoid triggering a rush of flesh-hungry baddies.

Or maybe you do, in fact, want to trigger that rush. Your enemies can be turned against each other, so if there's an enemy camp you need to clear out and you think you can guide a freaker horde towards them, you could be onto a winner.

Having a motorbike helps, too. Riding by and filling freakers with lead is an interesting dynamic, but don't make the mistake of thinking it will make you safe. Runners - freaker wolves - are as fast as you on your ride, making for some super tense chase sequences!

In other words, you've got a lot of leeway to tackle Days Gone however you see fit, but there's always something ready to turn you into a snack or fill you with lead.
