Summary

Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is a much-enhanced retelling of Radiant Historia on the original DS. It was an interesting role-playing game with a lot of promise, but one with combat and story mechanics that sometimes bumped into each other.

You play as Stocke, and operative of Alistel who (no surprises here) must save the world. Where things get interesting, though, is with Stocke's command of the White Chronicle relic. With it, he can essentially jump between alternate timelines and use the knowledge he gains to alter history. He can revisit certain key nodes in time to make events play out differently, though he often runs up against a shadowy figure - seemingly with the same power - working against him.

Of course, there are tweaks to the art and graphics to bring Radiant Historia up to date and new tracks from original composer Yoko Shimomura. The new addition that's arguably something of a game changer, however, is Friendly mode. In the original game, the mechanics of going back in time to alter story events also meant repeating many battles multiple times. In Friendly mode, you can more or less skip most of these repeats if you choose to, allowing the game's acclaimed story to really shine.

Alongside these changes are brand new story content to really extend the experience and two new modes. Vault of Time plays like a bonus challenge dungeon, pitting players against floor after floor of increasingly tough monsters. The Dunamis, meanwhile, runs alongside the main story mode and has Stocke board a time travelling ship with its mysterious captain Nemesia to explore further tangents of the two main timelines in strange, what-if scenarios.
