Summary

After skipping the West for a game, Yo-Kai Watch is back on our shores and ready for a new outing. It's a smart choice, too, because this spin-off is a friendly entry point to the series for western players who might not be as familiar with the series as the Japanese gaming community.

Stepping away from the usual Pokemon-style collecting, enlisting and battling of weird little creatures, Yo-Kai Watch Blasters: Red Cat Corps & White Dog Squad let you jump right into the heart of the action, controlling the creatures yourself. It still looks the same on a surface level, with a top-down view of Springdale and other spots that will be familiar to fans, there's an important distinction - battles are now in real time rather than relying on the automation of the core series. If you imagine Diablo skinned up to look like something on Cartoon Network you'll get the gist. Well, you might want to throw a bit of Ghostbusters into the mix - with a firehouse base, Blizzie playing the part of receptionist, a fire pole and a blastermobile the game has more than a couple of things in common with the hit film series.

There are three modes to try your hand, paw or other appendages at: Story Mode, which offers you a sandbox full of main and side-missions to explore; Patrol, which lets you farm the Oni orbs you need to progress, taking on Yo-Kai and collecting items and Big Boss mode, where you can go back and tackle bosses you've faced in Story Mode.

Red Cat Corps and White Dog Squad each contain different Yo-Kai, so if you can try both you can trade between the two to collect all the creatures!
