Summary

While Warhammer and Warhammer 40K video games are hardly in short supply, surprisingly few of them attempt to sail all that close to the tabletop games they're inspired by. With Adeptus Titanicus: Dominus, however, we have a game that doesn't just take the setting and a few key ideas - it hews surprisingly close to the physical game that inspired it.

Based on the Titan Legions tabletop spin-off, Adeptus Titanicus: Dominus puts you in charge of the Imperium's holiest, most insanely over the top weapons - the titans the game is named for. These are towering metal behemoths with adamantium skin and heavy duty forcefields that carry guns with names like the Volcano Cannon or the Apocalypse Launcher. One of them even has a cathedral built on top of it.

You control them in rounds of turn-based combat, choosing your loadouts and building your squad to maximise your chances of obliterating the enemy. While much of the maths and dice rolling has been tucked away behind the game's systems, fans of the tabletop version will be gratified by how close the original it plays things. Even the maps look a bit like something you'd find in a Games Workshop, albeit at several times the size and with an unlimited budget.

Warhammer 40,000: Adeptus Titanicus: Dominus offers mountains of heavy metal firepower against a bleakly gothic sci-fi future. Fans are going to love it.
