Stewart Gilray

Got info on Stewart Gilray?

Stewart Gilray began his career programming computer games at age 16, writing the z80 language on a Sinclair Spectrum before moving onto 68000 assembler on an Atari ST just a few months later. Joining forces with his best friend Richard Fox, Stewart started writing games under the name of Spidersoft, and then Enigma Software Development (ESD), during which time they created a text adventure called Lost Soul. Despite the fact that Lost Soul was never published, Stewart and Richard's game was received well by ST Format, and the 84% review score gave them the ability to work on bigger titles during the 1990s.

With Richard, Stewart produced intro sequences to PowerMonger, Birds of Prey and Populous 2 – the latter of which was canned due to Electronic Arts' decision to use only one disc for the ST and Amiga game's release. After a year of poor health in 1992, Stewart began working as a Producer for 21st Century Entertainment in 1993, where he handled multiple versions of Rubicon, Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies. Throughout his stay at the company, Stewart found himself working on many pinball simulation titles for home computers.

From 1997 Stewart worked for several different companies; at Grolier Interactive he was involved in various external projects before moving to Revolution Software in 1999 and then to Runecraft Ltd in 2000, where he worked on the Sega Dreamcast version of Soldier of Fortune. Stewart then founded Binary9 Studios, creating Pinball Challenge Deluxe and Pilot on the Game Boy Advance until a saturated handheld market forced the company to close. Having apparently left the games industry in 2002, Stewart helped to form Just Add Water Developments, which has gone onto to produce Gravity Crash.
