Summary

Hot Wheels are now making the transition from plastic to electronic, as Mechanix is released for PC. This is light-hearted racing at its best.

Following loosely in the path of Polyphony’s Gran Turismo 3, Hot Wheels Mechanix from THQ is not purely a game a racing, but a game of mechanics and modifications as well.

Players are able to choose from a selection of eight fully customisable vehicles, all of which are based upon their famous plastic counterparts and are just as bright and colourful.

The in-game action consists of eight well-crafted tracks that pose almost every challenge imaginable. Some tracks are flat, and designed for high speed, while others incorporate off road terrain into the equation. But there is no vehicle that can handle such variables alone. It is here where the core of the gameplay can be experienced.

Prior to every race, players are given the opportunity to alter and improve the characteristics of their Hot Wheels vehicle. Whether you want huge tyres, chopper blades or even turbo chargers, you have the freedom to customise to your heart's content. But such moves should be executed properly, as the opposition will be attempting to outwit you, both on the track and in the garage.

Evidently, Hot Wheels Mechanix offers a large variety of gameplay within a light-hearted pseudo-simulator. Over 40 million people still buy Hot Wheels many different products, so why not give this one a go?
