Summary

Ubisoft's Uru games, a series that follows in the wake of the popular Myst offerings, have been met with a similar level of success seen in Rand Miller's Cyan Worlds creations. It's not difficult to see why, and bringing the series together is Ubisoft's Complete Chronicles - a great compilation that puts all three Uru adventures into a single, desirable and affordable package.

Ages Beyond Myst
The story dates back some 10,000 years, to a time when the D'ni civilisation established an underground empire on Earth. While living beneath the Earth's surface, the D'ni practiced a technology called the Art of Writing to create these Ages, which they could travel to through Linking Books. During that time, a D'ni family travelled to the surface of what is now southern New Mexico, creating the link between our world and theirs. The D'ni people below thrived for some time, but later met with a great catastrophe that ended their civilisation and thus left the vast underground cities uninhabited and their Linking Book technology lost forever. Until now, of course.

To D'ni
The first Uru expansion pack sees players visiting various parts of the D'ni cavern. Myst fans will be astounded by the amount of historical and cultural information included in this expansion, and those new to what is regarded by some as the greatest adventure game of all time will be driven by the story's crucial question: what happened to the DRC and its Restoration?

Path of the Shell
Path of Shell, which is every bit as addictive and involving as Ages Beyond Myst, brings with it additional clothing options and new ages and areas to explore, as well as fresh gameplay elements that see players interacting with Uru's inhabitants, swimming and even keeping journals.

But what many players find most stimulating in this mysterious world are the puzzles. Some of the series' previous puzzles were indeed mind-bending, and Path of the Shell extends this gameplay trait by bringing with it 10 brand new challenges.

Whilst there are more than a few Myst 'clones' lurking on PC, there are few that can match the polished gameplay and visuals of this series of games. Inside its respective genre, Uru is top-notch, and Path of the Shell is better still.
