Summary

What is good in life? Well aside from food, snowboarding and cavorting with a loved one, there's a fair amount of merit to be found in wreaking havoc and causing chaos from the inside of a truck that's about 100 times the size of a normal man. That's why we have monster trucks!

And, so it is that we have the Monster Jam series and its 2009 iteration - Urban Assault. The name of the game is ploughing around in your great big vehicle, winning races and mashing things up. The name of the game (Urban Assault, for those with short attention spans) also tells us something that differentiates the latest game from its predecessors. It's all urban and stuff. As well as the traditional stadium-based tracks that can be found, players will, for the first time, be able to take their vehicular behemoths on a rampage through the city!

Another new feature to the series is the 'Eliminator' race mode. It's not a question of finishing first, it's a question of whether you can finish at all. Players go at it around the track and will see the last racer on each lap plucked off. The winner is the last man standing!

On top of that, expect a 'Devastator' mode, in which your objective is simply to cause as much carnage as possible, and Tony Hawk-style trick events. You'll even get the chance to participate in one-off mini games that will see you treating your truck like a bowling ball and even hurtling through the air toward a great big skee ball contraption!
