Smartdog formed in 1996 and was the brainchild of David Thompson (an ex Codemasters producer who had worked on Micro Machines and Pete Sampras), his ambition, to create the most playable and visually impressive titles across as many formats as possible.
To aid in his goals Dave looked to former colleagues and well renowned game designers and creators, Ashley Routledge and David Saunders. Together they began the company within the humble surroundings of their offices in Hatton (West Midlands), and nearly 5 years on and 7 titles later, Smart Dog has grown into a full-fledged developer with a strong and experienced team of over 30 people, based in their newly renovated offices, situated in Leamington Spa.
In 1999 French publisher and developer, Titus approached the company, to produce the PlayStation version of the successful Roadster, title. Then in 2000 Titus took control of the Warwickshire based studio and set them to work creating titles for the latest consoles.
Smart Dog's first work that SPOnG is aware of is the 1996 title, "Break Point " (PlayStation).
The company has been involved titles released on the PS2, GBA, PlayStation and Saturn.
The company's most recent involvement was on the 2002 release "Downforce" (PS2).
